new normal

Happy Friday Everyone!

The phrase "new normal" has been used to describe our current state of being amidst the coronavirus pandemic.  Everytime I hear the phrase I feel a little irritated.  In my opinion, this new normal is not something we want to accept for too long.  I never want it to be "normal" to maintain social distance from people I like to be around.  I never want it to be "normal" to cover my nose and face when walking into a business or restaurant.   I never want it to be normal worrying if we are going to have to shut down our schools, or stop student activities, or not be able to watch college football on tv.  I don't want any of these things to be "normal".  I want to move far beyond this "new normal" into something better.  Moving forward to something better will be impossible if we are constantly focused on what is behind us, however, when moving forward, it is important to check the rear view.

I don't believe we are accepting our current status as normal or a "new normal".  We are simply taking the necessary precautions to mitigate as much risk as we can while still engaging in the things we need, love, and want.  This has been the most unique start of school in my 22 years of experience.   Everyone is doing their part to keep us IN school and involved with what we want to do.  It may be difficult, uncomfortable, and stressful, but we have the will and the fortitude to stick with it as long as it takes.   We will move through this "new normal" into something much better.

Happy Friday!!
