Book Fair 2021 The Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled to be open from April 19th – April 23rd to the public. Sixth grade students will help sell books. The fair will open before and after school, and over sixth graders lunch period from 11:30 to 12:30. The fair will also be open the evening of the spring concerts, April 20th and 22nd from 6:00 until patrons go home after the concert. Students will not be expected to work during the evening of the concert; teachers will be there to help you. The goal this year is to sell $3600.00. Megan Lutt, daughter of Chris and Kristy Lutt, attended St. John Lutheran School before coming to Battle Creek High School as a freshman. She is a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Megan participated in mock trial for two years; speech, drama, and golf for three; and FCCLA and quiz bowl during all four years of high school. In golf, Megan qualified for the Class C state tournament three years in a row and was the 2020 Midstate Conference and District C-3 individual runner-up. During her senior year, Megan served as a FCCLA State Peer-Ed Officer and as the class vice-president. Megan is also the editor of the yearbook. In the classroom, Megan has earned several honors, including the NSAA Academic All-State award. She has been a member of the Battle Creek National Honor Society for two years and served as the chapter secretary during her senior year. Megan has been on the A Honor Roll for all four years of high school. Outside of school, Megan enjoys hanging out with friends and hammocking. She has worked as a waitress at Goody’s Grille since 2019 and as a nurse’s aide at Community Pride Care Center since the beginning of 2020. After graduation, Megan plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University to study biology. In the future, she plans to become either a physician’s assistant or a physician. Best wishes, Megan!

Rebecca Claire Arkfeld, daughter of Karen and Richard Arkfeld, attended St. John’s Lutheran School through fifth grade before coming to Battle Creek Elementary as a sixth grader. She has been part of the Battle Creek Public Schools ever since. Becca was active in FCCLA and speech and drama during all four years of high school. In both activities, she served as a chapter officer for two years. In FCCLA, Becca served as District Officer of Competitive Events during her junior year. In speech, she was chosen as Rookie of the Year in 2018, she was honorably mentioned as the Speech and Drama Underclassmen of the Year in 2019, and she was chosen as Outstanding Speech and Drama Underclassmen in 2020. Becca participated in cheerleading for three years, and she served as a cheer captain for two. As a senior, Becca has been active in FFA, where she currently serves as the organization’s president. In addition, she has been a class officer for three years. When asked to name a favorite staff member at BCHS, Becca listed Mrs. Kristin Colvey, stating “She was the strongest mentor I had throughout my high school years.” Becca listed her favorite class as Mrs. Angela Gray’s junior English III class because she enjoyed the small class and the discussions while reading The Scarlet Letter and To Kill a Mockingbird. Outside of school, Becca enjoys listening to music, spending time with her friends and her animals, and participating in 4-H, where she was named 4H’er of the Year in 2016. She also works part time at Goody’s Grille in Battle Creek. After graduation, Becca plans to attend Wayne State College to major in business. Best wishes, Becca!

Mari Clair Spale, daughter of Lisa and Steve Spale, has attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. When asked to list a favorite staff member at BCHS, Mari mentioned Ms. Laura Johns, stating, “She is very calm and has small classes.” Mari listed choir and reading as her favorite subjects in school and added that she loved reading both mythology and Shakespeare. After graduation, Mari plans to go into the workforce. She hopes to one day study psychology at Wayne State College. Best wishes, Mari!

Alli Kay Petersen, daughter of Jenn Petersen and Tyler Schmidt and Grant and Staci Hurlbert, attended school in Winside, Randolph, and Norfolk before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools in eighth grade. While in high school, Alli was active in one act play production and FCCLA for three years, she was in speech and cheerleading for two, and she has been a member of FFA this year as a senior. Alli has been chosen as Student of the Month and she earned a letter for her efforts as a cheerleader. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Alli listed Mrs. Stephanie Nelson, stating, “She is a very fun teacher, and I am able to talk to her about anything.” Outside of school, Alli has participated in 4-H where she was a Reserve Champ twice for showing goats. In her free time, Alli likes to listen to music and hang out with her friends. Emma Constance Wilkinson, daughter of Michael and Teresa Wilkinson, attended Andover Elementary School in Orlando, Florida, before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools in the first grade. She is a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Emma was active in golf, mock trial, speech, choir, and band during all four years of high school. In choir, she served as president for three years and was named Choir Student of the Year in 2019-2020. As a member of the band, Emma was a student director for three years. In mock trial, Emma served as a captain, and she was a senior officer in speech this past year. Emma culminated her speech career by qualifying for the state meet in extemporaneous speaking. In addition, Emma was a cheerleader for three years and participated in quiz bowl for two. She participated in one act play production and FCCLA for one year. Outside of school, Emma serves at her church as a CCD teacher and a co-worship leader. She also plays softball during the summer months. When asked to name her favorite teacher at BCHS, Emma listed two: Ms. Laura Johns and Mr. Ryan Heller. After graduation, Emma plans to attend Wayne State College to study criminal justice as a part of the Rural Law Opportunities Program. Mikayla Rae Miller, daughter of Tim and Janet Miller, attended Norfolk Catholic Elementary School through her fifth grade year. She then transferred to the Battle Creek Public Schools where she remained for the rest of her educational journey. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. During all four years of high school, Mikayla was active in speech, cheerleading, mock trial, and one act play production where she served as a crew member. In addition, she played volleyball for three seasons and ran track for two. She was a member of FCCLA for three years and was in dance and National Honor Society for two years. Mikayla played in the band from fifth grade through her junior year. Mikayla served as a cheer captain during both her junior and senior seasons and was captain of the mock trial squad this past year. She served as an officer in both speech and drama as well as FCCLA and was a class officer during her freshman, sophomore and junior years of high school. When asked to name a favorite instructor at BCHS, Mikayla listed Mrs. Leigha Kern, stating, “She cares about what we wanted to learn and how we were doing. She encouraged discussion within class and wanted to help build a bond among our class.” When asked to name a favorite subject in school, Mikayla listed English. Outside of school, Mikayla plays softball and participates in Bible study, discipleship group, and the SPARK Council. She also enjoys embroidery. Mikayla has been employed at Jimmy Johns since August of 2020 and has been a nanny since September of 2020. The Battle Creek Alumni Banquet has been postponed until July 2022 at Divots DeVent Center due to the uncertainty of the pandemic and most people not able to travel or gather.
Renee Ann Brummels, daughter of Toshia and Christopher Morrison and Daniel and Karlie Brummels, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Randolph, Nebraska. Renee participated in volleyball, basketball, track and dance during all four years of high school. In volleyball, she earned several honors, including being named to the All-State Honorable Mention squad by the Omaha World Herald and honorably mentioned by the Mid-State Conference. Renee also served as a volleyball team captain during both her junior and senior seasons. She is a two-time state qualifier going into her senior season of track and field and was a state champion in the triple jump as a sophomore. Aside from athletics, Renee was also very active in school activities while at BCHS. She was a member of Trailblazers for two years, FCCLA for three, and quiz bowl and student council for four. Renee served as the student council secretary during both her junior and senior years. She is currently the senior class president. Her success in the classroom includes being selected to the National Honor Society, where she has served as the chapter vice president this past year. She is a four time recipient of Student of the Month honors and has been on the A honor roll throughout high school. Renee also earned the Scholar Athlete Award for her success in both the field and in the classroom. Renee was crowned Homecoming queen by the student body during Homecoming 2020. When asked to name a favorite instructor at BCHS, Renee listed Mr. Ryan Heller who “always went above and beyond outside of the classroom.” Renee listed math as her favorite subject. Outside of school, Renee works as a lifeguard at the Norfolk YMCA and at the Battle Creek City Pool. In her free time, Renee enjoys spending time with friends and family outdoors and going on vacation. After graduation, Renee plans to attend the University of South Dakota at Vermillion where she will be a member of the track and field squad. She will major in biology. Sophia Lynn Pihlgren, daughter of Mickella Brabec and William Pihlgren, attended the Norfolk Public Schools until she came to Battle Creek Public School as a senior. Sophie participated in track and cross country during all four years of high school. She also was involved in FFA and band for three years and participated in theatre for one. When asked to name a favorite teacher at BCHS, Sophie listed Mr. Billy O’Brien because she loves learning about agriculture. Sophie’s fondest memory from her time at BCHS was the first football game last fall because she had a blast with her friends in the stands. Outside of school, Sophie is employed at Subway, a job she has held since January. After graduation, Sophie plans to attend McNeese State University in Louisiana where she will study animal science. Wylie John Trowbridge, son of Doug and Amy Trowbridge, attended St. John's Lutheran School before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools. Wylie was active in basketball and golf during his freshman and sophomore years. He listed his favorite staff member as former science instructor Mr. Tucker Tejkl because he was understanding and helpful to his students. He named his favorite subject as science. Outside of school, Wylie enjoys cruising around town, hanging out with his friends, and making money at his jobs. Coltin Lane Smith, son of David and Suzi Smith, attended Woodland Park Elementary School, Norfolk Middle School and Norfolk Junior High before coming to Battle Creek High School during his eighth grade year. While at BCHS, Coltin has been active in golf and chess club for two years. Outside of school, he spends his free time gaming and doing archery. When asked to name a favorite staff member at BCHS, Coltin listed former math instructor Dexter Hanzel, stating, “He always knew how to talk to me, and he was a very nice guy.” Coltin named math as his favorite subject because he enjoys solving complex problems with numbers. Recalling one of his favorite memories, Coltin explained how transferring to Battle Creek High School in eighth grade was so memorable because everyone was very nice and welcoming to him. Dylan William Hamilton, son of Shane Flanagan and Jessica Goden, has attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. Dylan was a member of the choir during all four years of high school, and he golfed for one season. When asked to list a favorite class, Dylan mentioned that choir was what he most enjoyed because of the positive energy and because of the instruction by Miss Johns, his favorite instructor. Outside of school, Dylan enjoys playing frisbee golf and hanging out with his friends. Dylan has also worked at Pizza Hut for the past year. Jace David Meinke, son of Jeff Meinke and Kristi Meinke, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He is an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Jace participated in football and basketball during all four years of high school, and he was a member of the track and field squad for three. For his efforts, he received an All State Honorable Mention award. He was a three year letter winner in football and one year letter winner for basketball. Jace received perfect attendance in 2018, and he listed Mr. Ryan Heller as his favorite instructor. When asked to list his favorite class, Jace mentioned shop class. When asked about his fondest memories from his time at BCHS, Jace stated that his favorite times were on the football field. After graduation, Jace plans to attend Southeast Community College to get his generals. He hopes to transfer to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln to study toward a career in cybersecurity. Zoey Belle Reeves, daughter of Chad and Tammi Reeves, attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Battle Creek for grades preschool through eighth grade. She came to Battle Creek High School at the start of her freshman year. She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Zoey was active in volleyball and basketball during all four years of high school, and she participated in track for three seasons. She served as one of the team captains for the basketball squad as a senior. Aside from athletics, Zoey was a member of the student council for four years, FCCLA for three, speech and trailblazers for two, and she has been a member of National Honor Society for the past year. For her efforts in the classroom, Zoey has been on the ‘A’ honor roll throughout high school, and she has been named Student of the Month and Outstanding Art Student of the Month. Zoey listed her favorite staff member as Mrs. Stephanie Nelson, stating, “She shares the same passions as I do, and I can always count on her if I need someone to talk to. She cares a lot about every one of her students.” Zoey named art as her favorite class because she gets to be creative in her own way and enjoys the relaxation that comes with creating art. Payton Katherine Kersten, daughter of Matt and Connie Kersten, attended Woodland Park Elementary in Norfolk and the Bloomfield Public Schools in Bloomfield before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools in eighth grade. She is a member of First Christian Church in Norfolk. Payton was active in volleyball and FCCLA during all four years of high school, and she participated in one act play production and track for two years. As a senior, Payton was a member of the girls’ wrestling squad. In FCCLA, Payton held the office of Vice-President of Competitive Events during her sophomore year, and she was Chapter President during both her junior and senior years. Besides her activities, Payton has also been successful in the classroom. She is a member of the National Honor Society, where she currently serves as the chapter's treasurer. In addition, Payton has served as a Trailblazer for two years and was the recipient of a Trailblazer Character Award. She has also been selected as Student of the Month at BCHS. Outside of school, Payton enjoys reading, being outdoors, babysitting, and volunteering at her church. She also works as a cook at Goody’s Grille in Battle Creek. When asked to name a favorite teacher and subject in school, Payton named Mr. Ryan Heller’s math class. She stated, “That class is always a positive environment” and “Mr. Heller genuinely cares about all of his students and what’s going on in their lives.” One of Payton’s favorite activities from her time at BCHS was shadowing midwife Jen Weinandt on Fridays. Payton had this to say about the experience: “I have learned my purpose and what I want to do with my life. I am so glad BCHS has added this opportunity for seniors; it has changed my life.” After graduation, Payton plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha to study biology. Chase Anton Oltmanns, son of Heather and the late Joel Oltmanns, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He is a member of St. Pat's Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Chase was active in football and basketball during all four years of high school and, he participated in track for three seasons. In football, Chase served as a team captain and made the all-district team twice. When asked to list a favorite staff member at BCHS, Chase mentioned Mr. Andrew Carlson, stating, “He's fun to be around.” Chase named English as his favorite class. BriAnna Elizabeth Zohner, daughter of Kevin and Joleen Zohner, attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Battle Creek for grades preschool through eighth grade. She came to Battle Creek High School at the start of her freshman year. She is an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. BriAnna was active in volleyball, basketball, and track during all four years of high school and served as team captain of the volleyball and basketball squads as a senior. For her efforts in volleyball, she was named to the First Team All Area squad and to the Omaha World Herald All State Honorable Mention roster. In basketball, BriAnnna was honorably mentioned by the Midstate Conference, and she was a state track qualifier as a sophomore, placing sixth in the 100 meter hurdles. Aside from athletics, BriAnna was a member of the student council for three years, and she was part of FCCLA, Trailblazers, and National Honor Society for two. For her efforts in the classroom, BriAnna has been on the ‘A’ honor roll throughout high school and was selected as Student of the Month on several occasions. When asked to name a favorite teacher, BriAnna listed Mr. Jim Hardt, stating, “He taught math and science so well, and even though science wasn’t my favorite subject, he made going to class fun. He . . . made sure that we all understood everything.” BriAnna listed math, specifically algebra, as her favorite subject because Mr. Heller makes class fun with his kahoots and yoga exercises. Looking back on her time at BCHS, BriAnna’s favorite memories will always be qualifying for state in volleyball. She remembers how fun it was to spend time with her team in that setting and what it was like to get to experience the state tournament. Alexis Nicole Campbell, daughter of Eric and Jessica Rogat, attended the Norfolk Public Schools before coming to Battle Creek High School in eighth grade. Alexis was a cheerleader for four years where she served as co-captain as a senior. She also participated in FCCLA, speech, and drama for two years and FFA for one year. When asked to name a favorite staff member from her time at BCHS, Alexis listed Mr. Billy O’Brien because “he is chill.” When asked to mention a favorite subject in school, Lexi said it is a tie between art and ag. She said she likes art because she can put her creativity to the test, and in ag, she loves learning about farming. Outside of school, Lexi works part time at Community Pride Care Center as a dietary aide, and she has played softball for the past three summers. She also likes to work on her pickup. Payton James Frederick, son of Gary and Jami Frederick, attended St. John’s Lutheran School until the third grade when he came to the Battle Creek Public Schools. He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Payton was active in football, basketball, and golf during all four years of high school. As a senior, Payton served as a team captain for both the football and basketball teams. For his efforts in athletics, Payton has numerous awards including being named Most Improved Athlete, All-Conference in basketball, and All-District Honorable Mention in football. In addition, he holds the school record for most three-pointers in a season and career three-pointers. When asked to mention a favorite staff member at BCHS, Payton mentioned Mr. Taylor Baumert, stating, “He always asks how I’m doing and how sports are going, and he makes class fun and interesting by telling jokes. When you’re around him, he makes you smile or laugh.” Payton named government as his favorite class because Mr. Baumert makes the class enjoyable. Ashlynn Maggie Schwartz, daughter of Amy and Brian Schwartz, attended Woodland Park Elementary School in Norfolk before coming to the Battle Creek Public schools in third grade. She is a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Ashlynn is a member of the newly formed FFA program at BCHS. When asked to list a favorite staff member, Ashlynn mentioned Mrs. Stephanie Nelson, stating, “She always pushes me in art and in fitness. She was persistent in bettering me and always knew I could do better.” When asked to list her favorite subjects in school, Ashlynn named art and her animal science class. She said, “Art let me be creative and challenge myself, and Animal Science taught me new and intriguing things.” Outside of school, Ashlynn likes to spend her time riding horses, working with cows, and hanging out with her friends. During the summer months, Ashlynn was active in softball from fifth through eighth grade, and she has been active in 4H, where she has won many trophies and awards for showmanship. Reece Daniel Bode, son of Brent and Tanya Bode, attended Battle Creek Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He is an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Reece was active in football, basketball, and track during all four years of high school. As a senior, he served as a captain on both the football and basketball squads. As a freshman, he was named Newcomer of the Year, and as a sophomore, he was selected as Most Improved Athlete. This past fall, Reece was selected to the All State squad for football. Aside from athletics, Reece has served as a Trailblazer and is a member of the National Honor Society, where he has served as president this past year. He has been chosen as Student of the Month on six occasions. When asked to list a favorite instructor, Reece mentioned Mr. Taylor Baumert, stating, “His energy each class period pumps me up. I [also] enjoy him as a coach, and he really motivates us to get better each day.” Reece named science as his favorite subject because he enjoys the lab observations and learning about the organ systems in Anatomy class. When asked to name a favorite memory from his time at BCHS, Reece mentioned state track during his freshman year. He said it was fun because of the group of guys he was with and the atmosphere at Omaha Burke Stadium was unforgettable. Outside of school, Reece likes to spend his free time hunting, running, and playing baseball, where he was a Junior American Legion state tournament qualifier. He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Jeston was active in wrestling throughout junior high and then again as a senior. He also participated in golf for two seasons. Aside from athletics, Jeston was a member of one act play production for four years and speech for three. He has been a part of the band since fifth grade. In band, Jeston served as vice president during his junior year and president this past year. Outside of school, Jeston likes to spend his free time fishing, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. He has been employed at Goody’s Grille for three years. When asked to name a fondest memory of his time at BCHS, Jeston mentioned that “being in the student section at football and basketball games” was what he enjoyed most. Kalina Liouse Elizabeth Mieure, daughter of Jamie and Terry Mieure, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. She is a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Kalina participated in speech for two years and FCCLA for one. When asked to list a favorite memory from her time at BCHS, she mentioned that at a speech meet, she and a friend competed to see who could say hello to the most people. Besides her own activities, Kalina has enjoyed attending sporting events and cheering on the Braves. Outside of school, she enjoys walking her dogs, working cattle, and getting coffee with her mom. Kalina also likes to babysit and spend time with her family. When asked to name a favorite class, Kalina listed her English class taught by Mrs. Janet Miller. Tayce Lynn Bleich, daughter of Justin and Rachelle Bleich, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. She is a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Tayce was active in volleyball and track during all four years of high school. She played basketball for two seasons and wrestled this past year as a senior, where she finished in sixth place at the girls’ state meet. Tayce mentioned that one of the things she was most proud of was that she was able to maintain a 3.7 GPA while being a three sport athlete. Aside from athletics, Tayce was a member of FCCLA and the dance team during all four years of high school. In dance, she served as co-captain as a junior and again as a senior. She participated in one act play production for two years. When asked to list a favorite staff member at BCHS, Tayce mentioned Mrs. Kristin Colvey, stating, “She was super chill and fun to talk to.” Tayce named weight lifting as her favorite elective in school because it made her stronger for sports. Outside of school, Tayce enjoys playing softball in the summer, spending time with her friends, and shopping. Reagan Marie Praeuner, daughter of Robert and Kally Praeuner, attended St. John’s Lutheran School through fifth grade year before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools for the remainder of her education. She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Reagan was active in basketball for three seasons, and she was on the one act play production crew and a member of FCCLA during all four years. When asked to name a favorite instructor at BCHS, Reagan mentioned two: Mrs. Kristin Colvey and Mrs. Leigha Kern. Outside of school, Reagan has played softball for Battle Creek since she was little, and she enjoys spending time with friends and her nieces. Jenna is a member of both St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek and First Christian Church of Norfolk. Jenna participated in One Act Play Production and FCCLA for three years. She was a cheerleader for two years and a member of FFA as a senior, where she served as FFA secretary. Jenna received awards for both land and livestock judging in the organization. She also received a letter in cheer and was a Student of the Month honoree. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Jenna listed Mrs. Jenni Frey, saying, “Mrs. Frey is just so kind to everyone, and she gives you candy.” Jenna’s favorite memory from her time at Battle Creek High School is playing bingo in Mrs. Frey’s Spanish class. Elly Jo Kurpgeweit, daughter of Shannon and Sarah Kurpgeweit, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. Elly was a member of the speech team for two seasons, and she has been a member of FFA this past year, where she has served as an officer. She qualified for State FFA in the category of livestock judging. In addition, Elly played volleyball for one season. When asked to name a favorite staff member at BCHS, Elly listed Mrs. Stephanie Nelson, stating, “She is a fun teacher who has been there for me to talk to as a friend. She also enjoys riding dirt bikes, riding four wheelers, and working on her family farm. She has been a sales associate at Renegade for the past three years. Gabriel Richard Hoffmeyer, son of Ross and Kristin Hoffmeyer, attended Riverdale Elementary in Kearney and Washington Elementary in Norfolk before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools in fifth grade. Gabe participated in football and golf during all four years of high school and was a member of the FFA this past year. He has been a Student of the Month honoree and has earned all A’s in algebra. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Gabe listed Mr. Seth Montag because he is a good person to talk to. After graduation, Gabe plans to attend Northeast Community College to study agronomy. Hannah Rae Tillman, daughter of Sarah and Joshua Tillman, attended Anthon Oto Community Schools in Iowa before coming to St. John's Lutheran School in 4th grade. She remained at St. John’s through 7th grade and joined Battle Creek Public Schools for the remainder of her education. Hannah is a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. During high school, Hannah was involved in one act play production, speech, and track for two years each, and she was on the dance and cheer teams during all four years. Hannah served as a cheer co-captain this past year. When asked to list a favorite teacher, Hannah mentioned Mrs. Leigha Kern, stating, “She has always inspired me to work hard and to do my best.” Hannah listed Spanish as her favorite subject in school. Outside of school, Hannah likes to hang out with her friends. When she's not with friends, she spends her time babysitting and volunteering in the community. She recently started working at In His Arms Childcare in Battle Creek. After graduation, Hannah plans to attend Northeast Community College for her generals and then she hopes to study at UNMC to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing. Best wishes, Hannah!
Cole W. Vavra Coleman W. Vavra, son of Corry and Alisa Vavra and Dacia Vavra, has attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all years of his education. When asked to list a favorite teacher at BCHS, Cole listed two: Mr. Dexter Hanzel and Mr. Mike Couch. He listed shop as his favorite class during the day. Mason Cohl Mink, son of Todd and Lori Mink, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He is an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Mason participated in football, basketball, and track during all four years of high school. He served as team captain for the football squad as a senior. For his efforts, he received numerous athletic awards, including Academic All-State in basketball (2018), Academic All-State in football (2020), First-Team All-District in football (2020), and All-State Honorable Mention in football (2020). Mason ends his career as a ten year letter winner at Battle Creek High School. Outside of athletics, Mason is a member of the National Honor Society. When asked to name a favorite teacher, he listed Mr. Andrew Carlson, stating they had some pretty interesting conversations about farming during weights class. When asked to list a favorite subject, Mason listed math because he is a “big numbers guy”. Outside of school, he enjoys fishing, hanging out with his friends, and working on his family farm. After graduation, Mason plans to attend Northeast Community College to study Mechanized Agriculture. Best wishes, Mason!
Benjamin Weinandt, son of Myron and Jennifer Weinandt, attended Beadle Elementary in Yankton, South Dakota, before coming to Battle Creek Public Schools for the remainder of his education. He is a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Ben was active in football during all four years of high school and played basketball for two. Aside from athletics, Ben was a member of the band for all four years, where he served as vice-president as a senior. In addition, he is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of FFA, where he has served as vice president this past school year. Ben also served as a trailblazer for one year. When asked to name a fondest memory of his time at BCHS, Ben mentioned when former teachers Mr. Trevor Anderson and Mr. Tucker Tejkl dressed up and sang for the student body at an assembly. Ben listed Mr. Taylor Baumert and Mr. Ryan Heller as his favorite teachers, stating, “They always give good advice and are always positive influences.” Ben named government as his favorite subject because it helps him understand the various things that are required of citizens. He also enjoys discussing social issues in the class. After graduation, Ben plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He intends to major in animal science. Best wishes, Ben!

Kaylee Grace Osborne, daughter of Robert and Julie Osborne, attended Montessori Circle of Friends Preschool in Norfolk before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools for the remainder of her education. She is a member of Harvest Church in Norfolk. Kaylee was active in volleyball and dance during all four years of high school. In dance, she served as captain during her junior and senior years. In addition, Kaylee served as statistician for the wrestling squad for two seasons. She said, “It was a lot of fun, and I loved spending time with my team.” After graduation, Kaylee plans to attend Northeast Community College for one year. The Battle Creek Bravette runners competed well at our home invite yesterday! With a short team, all three runners medaled in the top 15, competing hard with the competition there. Medal places for the girls were: Lindsey: 5th Madeline: 14th Sophie: 15th
The High School Brave runners were back to full strength for the BC Invite yesterday, placing 3rd as a team. All runners competed well, with many PR's ran. Results were: Hunter O: 7th Kolton: 21st Hunter K: 25th Marshall: 29th Dane: 33rd
