grades

Happy Friday everyone!

All too often students connect their grade to what a teacher may think of them as a person.  This train of thought could not be further from the truth.  Teachers don't assign grades to students; they assign grades to performance on a specific task or assignment.  Performance is directly attributed to preparation.  Performance is good when preparation is good or performance is poor when preparation is poor.  This means performance is always temporary.  The key to high performance over time is consistent and continuous improvement in preparation.   As we get older and move beyond our schooling years, the exact same thing is true.  The tasks and assignments turn into job opportunities or promotions, but our performance is still dependent on our preparation.  It is important to understand that continuous improvement in preparation does not happen in huge increments.  You can't fix everything at once.  It happens by identifying a little problem, figuring out the best option to fix it, implementing that option, determining if that option worked, then exploring the next little problem within your preparation plan.  Focusing on the little steps of improvement within the entire preparation plan will result in better performance.  Learning how to prepare to perform is most important. The performance or grade will take care of itself.

Happy Friday!!
