Happy Friday, everyone!

It’s hard to believe how quickly the 2024-25 school year has flown by. With graduation tomorrow and just under a week left for students and staff, the finish line is in sight. As I complete my seventh year with Battle Creek Public Schools—and my 26th year in education—I’m reminded of just how dynamic and rewarding this work continues to be.

Every school year brings its own unique blend of highs and lows, challenges and triumphs. No two years are ever the same—and that’s exactly what makes this profession so meaningful. If we expected each year to follow the same script, we’d be constantly disappointed. It’s the growth, development, and change that breathe life into each new year.

Watching students grow physically, mentally, and emotionally remains one of the greatest joys of this work. Helping them overcome adversity, strengthen their self-management skills, and realize the potential within themselves is at the heart of why we do what we do. As educators, we are lifelong learners, committed to passing on this love of learning to the next generation.

This work is deeply rewarding, but also mentally and physically demanding—for both students and staff. That’s why summer is so essential. It's a time to rest, reflect, and recharge, so we can come back in August ready to tackle a new year full of fresh opportunities, challenges, and changes.

To our graduating seniors—congratulations! We’re proud of your achievements and excited for what lies ahead. To our students moving up a grade—keep reaching for more. To our retirees—thank you for your years of service; your impact will be felt for years to come. To our new hires—welcome to the team. And to our returning staff—your energy, ideas, and dedication are what drive us forward. For those leaving for new opportunities, we wish you nothing but success on your journey.

The cycle of endings and new beginnings is what makes education so special. Let’s continue embracing it, together, as we work to make Battle Creek Public Schools the best it can be for everyone we serve.

Wishing you all a restful summer and the happiest Friday of the 2024-25 school year. Before we know it, 2025-26 will be here!
