Due to the holiday weekend, some of the regular zoom meetings did not take place until this morning.  Thus, the late afternoon update.  Commissioner Blomstedt and Governor Ricketts held their zoom meeting yesterday at 4:00 PM and ESU 8 administrators held a zoom meeting at 10:00 AM today.  The overall message of Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected remains the same as well as the statewide directed health measures(DHMs).  Here are some other key points from both meetings:

  • These final 3 weeks of April are crucial, please continue following DHMs.
  • The projected death rate for Nebraska has gone down.
  • DHMs include NO club sports or self-organized team activities of any kind.  DHMs are in effect until May 31, 2020 unless changed by the governor.
  • Testing for COVID-19 continues to expand throughout the state.
  • Nebraska is doing well to flatten the curve and not overwhelm our healthcare facilities.
  • More guidance is supposed to be coming regarding graduation ceremonies in May.  As of today, only virtual graduation ceremonies can happen through May 31.

We continue to try to navigate these waters and relay relevant information along the way.  Things change quickly and I know graduation is a hot topic.   If we set a date too soon, a traditional ceremony may not be possible.   If we set a date too late in the summer, we could end up prolonging an already overdue celebration.  We are doing our best to make the best decision for our seniors and their families.  Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected!
