Happy Friday everyone!
Public schools are among America’s most essential and valuable institutions. They welcome every student who lives within their boundaries—regardless of ability, background, race, ethnicity, or socio-economic status—and commit to serving all learners.
Across our state and nation, public school educators are dedicated, hardworking professionals who show up every day with passion, purpose, and a deep belief in students. At Battle Creek Public Schools, that commitment is on full display. We celebrate the great things happening for kids in our classrooms and programs. Our social media presence is strong. Our parent support is unmatched. Our community partnerships are meaningful and appreciated. We are proud of our exceptional teachers, support staff, and leaders who challenge and inspire students to grow and excel. We hold high expectations, value hard work, and remain deeply committed to excellence. Most importantly, we have outstanding students who show up, engage, and do the work every day.
This is what makes Battle Creek Public Schools special—and it takes all of us to make it happen.
This message may sound like bragging, and in some ways, it is. It may also sound idealized, as if we are a perfect school system without challenges. We are not. No school—public, private, or home-based—is without challenges. What matters is how we respond to them.
Historically, the humility of public school professionals has meant that we have not always shared our successes loudly or often enough. As a result, confidence in public education has declined in many places, while alternative options continue to grow. These options are not inherently bad, but they often come with a message that public schools must compete.
Battle Creek Public Schools does not shy away from competition. We embrace it. We will continue to turn challenges into opportunities for learning and growth. We will continue to share our achievements, celebrate our progress, and communicate our unwavering commitment to excellence—for our staff, our students, and our community.
We are not a perfect public school—such a thing does not exist—but we are committed to being the very best Battle Creek Public Schools we can be.
Happy Friday!!
