Happy Friday everyone,

As school staff and parents, we spend the most time with our children, which means we share in the responsibility of helping them grow into capable, confident individuals. Together, we create safe environments where they can learn, develop, and build the skills they need for life. We nurture their growth, encourage their efforts, set expectations, and celebrate their successes.

One of the most challenging parts of this role is allowing children to struggle. Our instinct is often to step in quickly because we care deeply about their well-being. However, when children experience struggle in a safe and supportive environment, it becomes one of the most powerful ways they learn. Through these moments, they build self-reliance, determination, and resilience.

The key is safety. When a situation becomes unsafe, that is when we step in and provide support. But when the challenge is appropriate and safe, it presents a valuable opportunity for growth. As children get older, the level of challenge should naturally increase, helping them continue to develop the skills they need to navigate life independently.

Watching children struggle is not easy—whether as a parent or an educator—but those moments often lead to some of the most meaningful learning experiences. It is not only okay to allow children to struggle safely; it is essential to their growth.

Happy Friday!
