MINUTES BOARD OF EDUCATION REPORT June 8, 2026
The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held on June 8, 2026. This meeting was advertised in the June 3rd edition of the Battle Creek Enterprise. President Jeremy Pochop called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. Members present were Tammy Bierman, Tom Leathers, Bo Brummels, and Paul Kuchar. Member absent was Toby Thompson. Also present were Superintendent Jake Luhr, Principal Jeff Heimes, Principal Curtis Childers, and one Daikin representative. The open meeting law poster was discussed and posted and will be followed at every Board meeting. To start the Board meeting, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Tom Leathers made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda, which included the June general fund bills that totaled $43,280.97. Tammy Bierman seconded the motion. On roll call vote, the motion carried with five ayes.
Daikin had a representative who updated the Board on the status and progress of the project.
A Public Hearing was held for amending the special building fund budget. The amendment increases the special building fund budget from $1,195,711 to $4,395,711 for the 25-26 budget. No public comments were heard. The Public Hearing was closed.
Bo Brummels made a motion to approve the amended budget for the special building fund from $1,195,711 to $4,395,711 for the 25-26 budget. Tom Leathers seconded the motion. On roll call vote, the motion was carried with five ayes.
A Public Hearing was held for Parental Involvement Policy 6400 & 6410. No public comments were heard. The Public Hearing was closed.
Mr. Luhr presented a memo from Perry Law that outlined recommended policy updates required by state law. Tom Leathers made a motion to approve the policy updates presented by Perry Law and as required by state law. Paul Kuchar seconded the motion. On roll call vote, the motion carried with five ayes.
The Board reviewed Policy 5417 Wellness Policy with no recommended changes to the existing policy.
Comments were heard from the Principals and Superintendent.
With no further business, Board President Jeremy Pochop adjourned the meeting at 6:54 P.M.
