There are three basic steps to success in school—and in life:
Show up. Follow the rules. Do your work.
1. Show Up.
Be where you are supposed to be, when you are supposed to be there. You won't always feel like showing up. You won't always feel your best. But showing up anyway builds something powerful: reliability, perseverance, and character.
2. Follow the Simple Rules.
Every school, workplace, family, and community has expectations. Be respectful. Be kind. Use your phone responsibly. Listen. Work with others. Do your part. These may seem like small things, but success is often built through the consistent practice of small, positive choices.
3. Do Your Work.
Take responsibility. Complete the assignment. Participate. Follow through. Take initiative. Whether you're a student, employee, parent, or community member, people who take ownership of their responsibilities create opportunities for themselves and others.
As adults, these principles can seem obvious. But they aren't always easy for young people to learn—and that's where all of us come in.
Parents, educators, businesses, and community members have a shared responsibility to help our kids develop the habits, discipline, and character they will need to thrive.
If we work together, we can ensure that Battle Creek kids don't just know these three steps—we can help them live them, believe in them, and become exceptional at them.
