BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES SEPTEMBER 22, 2026
The special meeting of the Board of Education was held on September 22, 2026. This meeting was advertised in the September 16th edition of the Battle Creek Enterprise. President Jeremy Pochop called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. Members present were Tammy Bierman, Tom Leathers, Bo Brummels, Toby Thompson and Paul Kuchar. Also present were Superintendent Jake Luhr and two patrons. The open meeting law poster was discussed and posted and will be followed at every Board meeting. To start the Board meeting, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Tom Leathers made a motion to approve the 2026-27 Budget for Madison County School District #5, Battle Creek Public Schools, as published in the September 9th edition of the Battle Creek Enterprise, which includes the following funds: General Fund – $10,079,043, Depreciation Fund – $644,080, Employee Benefit Fund – $41,375, Activities Fund – $467,663, School Nutrition Fund – $606,500, Bond Fund – $1,000,000, Special Building Fund – $2,244,540, & Student Fee Fund – $48,835. Paul Kuchar seconded the motion. On roll call vote the motion carried with six ayes.
President Jeremy Pochop read the Property Tax Request Resolution 26-27. Toby Thompson made a motion to approve the Property Tax Resolution 26-27 for the General Fund in the amount of $5,275,075, the Bond Fund in the amount of $809,743, and the Special Building Fund in the amount of $1,000,000. Bo Brummels seconded the motion. On roll call vote the motion carried with six ayes.
With no further business, Board President Jeremy Pochop adjourned the meeting at 6:24 P.M.
