Happy Friday everyone!

Support can be defined as bearing weight, providing assistance, or offering emotional encouragement to someone. When we look across our BCPS staff, our parents, and our community, it is clear that support exists in abundance. It is one of the greatest strengths we have.

It is easy to support someone or something when we agree with the decisions being made. Agreement naturally creates connection, and success often makes support feel even easier. We are quick to celebrate and stand behind the people, ideas, and efforts that are producing positive outcomes.

But the true power of support is revealed when things become difficult.

The real challenge comes when we do not completely agree with someone or something we have chosen to support. It becomes even more challenging when the outcome of that support creates adversity for someone close to us—a colleague, a family member, or even our own child. In those moments, it can be tempting to shift from support to scrutiny or from support to opposition.

But I believe it does not have to be that way.

We can remain supportive while still disagreeing. We can remain supportive when circumstances become difficult. We can remain committed to a greater purpose even when the path toward that purpose is challenging or personally uncomfortable.

Support does not require 100% agreement. It does not mean we will never experience disappointment, disagreement, or adversity. Instead, true support is about how we respond when those moments arise.

It requires us to step back, broaden our perspective, and use a larger lens to see the bigger picture and understand the purpose behind what we are trying to accomplish. When we remain committed to that bigger picture, disagreements and challenges become opportunities—not obstacles.

They become opportunities for meaningful conversation, thoughtful problem-solving, reflection, growth, and understanding. And ultimately, those experiences can make our support stronger, more authentic, and more resilient.

As we move forward together, I hope we continue to remember that support is not measured by how easily we agree. It is measured by how we show up when things are difficult.

We may not always agree. We may not always understand the outcome. We may even experience adversity along the way. But if we can remain committed to one another, to our shared purpose, and to the greater good of our school & community, we can turn challenges into opportunities and differences into growth.

That is the kind of support that strengthens a school and a community. That is the kind of support that moves us forward—together.

Happy Friday!!
