A common definition of leadership is the ability of an individual or group of individuals to influence and guide others. Based on this definition we all possess leadership skills either individually or collectively. We all have the ability to influence others and be leaders. Our influence can either be positive or negative and our influence will dictate our culture. According to famous author Jon Gordon: Our number one job in leadership is to create and drive a positive culture. A positive culture that energizes and encourages people, fosters relationships and teamwork, enables people to learn and grow, and provides an opportunity for people to do their best work. Culture is everything. It takes continuous, collective effort. Culture drives expectations and beliefs which drives behaviors. Behaviors drive habits and habits create the future. It all starts with the culture we create and drive throughout our organization, school, or community. This is where all the success and great results begin. We all share the driver's seat in our car of positive culture. The ride is not always going to be smooth and we may need a tune up on a regular basis, but when we stay committed to leading a positive culture we ensure being committed to excellence and being the school of choice.
