Jaxson Ray Hassler, son of Chris and Melinda Hassler, attended St. John’s Lutheran School before transferring to Battle Creek in seventh grade. Jaxson is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Jaxson was involved in cross country for two years, and he wrestled for all four years of high school, lettering all four seasons. He was a three time state qualifier and was a member of the two-time state dual runner-up squad. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Jaxson mentioned Mr. Taylor Baumert because “he always finds a way to keep class interesting.” Jaxson listed his favorite class as Personal Finance because it was a fun environment to learn in. His favorite moment from his time at BCHS was wrestling in the finals at the state duals competition. Outside of school, Jaxson passes his time by hunting, fishing, and hanging out with his friends. He is also an Eagle Scout. After high school, Jaxson will participate in basic training for the Nebraska National Guard. He then plans to attend Wayne State College to study business.

Breanna Marie Borchers, daughter of Curtis and Jodi Borchers, attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Battle Creek from preschool through eighth grade. She then attended Battle Creek High School for the remainder of her education. Breanna is a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Battle Creek, and she actively participates in the CYO youth group. Breanna was involved in volleyball, basketball, track, speech, one act play production, FCCLA, student council, and quiz bowl during all four years of high school. She was a member of the National Honor Society and served as a trailblazer, and she was a member of the yearbook staff, serving this past year as one of the editors. In one-acts, Breanna received an Outstanding Performer Award her senior year. Breanna held many leadership positions over the past four years, including quiz bowl captain her junior and senior years, volleyball co-captain her senior year, FCCLA Vice President of Public Relations her sophomore year, and FCCLA President her junior and senior years. Additionally, she served the first three years of high school as her class vice president and was selected as president of her senior class. In addition, Breanna was the National Honor Society secretary. For her efforts in the classroom, Breanna was on the A Honor Roll throughout high school. In addition, she was selected as Student of the Month and Character of the Month on four occasions. She was named to the Academic All State list for volleyball, basketball, and speech and was a Battle Creek High School Believers and Achievers award winner. Breanna qualified for the National FCCLA Conference her junior year and placed in the top ten. Her senior year, she was the FCCLA state champion of Chapter in Review Portfolio, qualifying for Nationals again, which will take place this coming summer. She was awarded the Greater Omaha Youth Salute Top Leader Award and the ELKS Student of the Month Award during her senior year. She was a letter winner for her efforts in volleyball, basketball, and track. Breanna was selected by the BCHS faculty and staff as the 2023 BCHS Prom Queen. When asked to name a favorite teacher at BCHS, Breanna struggled to name just one. She stated that every teacher and coach at Battle Creek made an incredible impact on her in their own way, and she is especially thankful to have had her mom so close every day. Breanna said that Mrs. Jenni Frey and Mrs. Leigha Kern have always encouraged her to dig deeper and learn more. She listed her favorite classes as Spanish and English, but she added that she loves yearbook with Mrs. Angela Gray and art with Mrs. Stephanie Nelson because of “their constant encouragement of creativity.” Breanna stated that she is “extremely grateful to have had wonderful teachers that each played such an important role in [her] education and life.” Outside of school Breanna enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and playing softball. She also loves art and trivia. In the summer, Breanna plays softball and was on the 2022 State Softball Championship team. Additionally, she works as a softball umpire in her free time during the summer months. Breanna is also active in 4-H and shows her rabbits at the fair each summer. After graduation, Breanna plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She hopes to pursue a career in secondary education with endorsements in both English and Spanish.

Brenna Francis Wilson, daughter of Brent and the late Laurie Wilson, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. She is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. Brenna was active in volleyball for three years. Aside from athletics, she was in speech and one act play production for two years. For her efforts in the classroom, Brenna has been on the A Honor Roll throughout high school. Brenna listed her favorite staff member as Mrs. Stephanie Nelson, saying, “She makes the day at school better, and she is a fun teacher. She builds strong relationships with her students and she is a person that I trust.” Brenna named art as her favorite subject because it allows her to be creative. Outside of school, Brenna enjoys baking cakes and cupcakes and spending time at the YMCA. She babysits as a side job and has been employed at Scooters since the fall of 2021. As a leader at Scooters, Brenna was named Employee of the Month in March of 2022. After graduation, Brenna plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha to get her bachelor’s degree. She then hopes to move out of the state to pursue medical school.

Eden Maye Heggemeyer, daughter of Dan Heggemeyer and Shawna Heggemeyer, attended Battle Creek Elementary School from preschool through fifth grade. She attended Boone Central Public Schools for grades six through eight before returning to Battle Creek High School where she has remained ever since. Eden was active in volleyball for three seasons and track and basketball for one year each. Aside from athletics, Eden participated in one act play production her freshman year. Eden also participated in FCCLA. She has been an active trailblazer for two years and is currently a member of the yearbook staff. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Eden listed Mrs. Leigha Kern, stating, “She cares about every single one of us and does her best to make sure we succeed.” She added, “Mrs. Kern does her best to connect with us on a personal level and gets us ready for our next step.” Eden mentioned that Mrs. Gray’s yearbook class was her favorite because she likes the calm class atmosphere and likes taking pictures at events. Outside of school, Eden plays softball for the Golden Girls. In her free time, she loves to hang out with friends and go to the lake and to concerts. After graduation, Eden will be attending Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, to major in elementary education. She will also be playing softball for the Tigers.

Allison Ann Long, daughter of Michael and Laura Long, attended Trinity Lutheran for preschool before coming to St. John Lutheran School for kindergarten through sixth grade. She was homeschooled for grades seven and eight before coming to Battle Creek High School for her high school years. Alli is a member of First Christian Church in Norfolk. Alli was active in dance for two years and cheerleading for one year. Alli also participated in FCCLA for one year and FFA for three years. Alli listed her favorite teacher as Mrs. Brianna O’Brien because “she is a great listener.” Alli listed her favorite class as Culinary Skills because she was able to advance her knowledge of cooking and the food industry. When asked to name a favorite memory from her time at BCHS, Alli mentioned that state FFA was her favorite. She loved having the opportunity to meet new friends, and she learned a lot. Outside of school, Alli enjoys fishing, swimming in the river, and going to country concerts with friends. After graduation, she plans to attend Northeast Community College to complete the veterinary technician program. After college, she plans to move to Casper, Wyoming, to work for a private ranch.

Aurora Judith Hingst, daughter of Cory and Staci Hingst, attended Montessori Preschool in Norfolk before attending Norfolk Public Schools from kindergarten through sixth grade. She came to Battle Creek High School in seventh grade where she has remained ever since. Aurora was active in volleyball and track during all four years of high school, and she played basketball for two seasons. Aside from athletics, Aurora was a member of the FCCLA chapter for one year, and she was involved in one act play production for two years. When asked to name a favorite instructor at BCHS, Aurora listed Mrs. Stephanie Nelson, stating, “She is always there for me and shows me she cares.” Aurora mentioned that art is her favorite class. In her free time, Aurora loves to ride horses and do any outdoor activities, especially fishing. She also enjoys hanging around friends and family. When asked to name a fondest memory from her time in high school, Aurora mentioned that her sophomore track season was a thrill. She stated that they made it to state in the 4x100 meter relay and placed fourth. After graduation, Aurora plans to attend Northeast Community College to begin her education toward a career as a physical therapy assistant.

Will Terry Hamer, son of Russ and Kari Hamer, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Will was active in football, basketball, and track during all four years of high school, serving as a team captain in both football and basketball this past year. At the football banquet this past fall, Will was awarded the honor of Teammate of the Year, and he was also an All State Honorable Mention honoree as well as named to the F6 All District squad or Class C-2. For his efforts on the gridiron, Will was selected to play in the Northeast Nebraska All Star Football Classic to be held this coming summer. Aside from athletics, Will has been a trailblazer for the past two years, and he was named the January Student of the Month this past winter. Will listed his favorite staff member as Mr. Dexter Hanzel, former math teacher, stating, “He explained everything in great depth and made sure everyone knew what was going on, and he was really funny and a fun person to be around.” Will named anatomy as his favorite subject because he enjoys learning about the body, and it is what he will study in college. When asked to name a fondest memory from his time in high school, Will mentioned the Friday of homecoming week during his senior year when everyone was playing games and the classes were battling. Outside of school, Will enjoys hunting, fishing, playing summer baseball, and hanging out with his friends. Over the past two summers, Will has worked for the Battle Creek Ball Association where he preps the baseball and softball fields for games. After graduation, Will plans to attend the University of South Dakota to study pre-physical therapy.

Parker Douglas Detrek Clausen, son of Doug and Amy Clausen, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He is a member of First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Parker participated in football and cross country for one year each, track for three seasons, and he played basketball during all four years of high school. He lettered in both cross country and track and received the NSAA Three Sport Award. Aside from athletics, Parker served as a trailblazer. Outside of school, Parker plays baseball during the summer months, and he enjoys camping and hanging out with his friends. He was a member of the baseball team that won the Ralph Bishop Legion Baseball Tournament and took third place at state. He also volunteers in the community and holds a part time job at Credit Bureau Services. After graduation, Parker plans to study business and finance.

Marshall Paul Herman, son of Nathan and Amy Herman, attended Riverside Christian School in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, for his preschool years. From kindergarten to the fourth grade, he attended Omaha Christian Academy in Omaha, Nebraska, before moving to St. John's Lutheran School for fifth grade to eighth grade. He has been at Battle Creek High School ever since. Marshall is a member of First Christian Church in Norfolk. Marshall participated in basketball for one season, ran track for two years, and was a member of the cross country squad during all four years of high school. Aside from athletics, Marshal participated in quiz bowl and served as a trailblazer during his junior and senior years. He is a member of the National Honor Society and currently serves as the senior class treasurer. In addition, he was the Boys State alternate last year. For his efforts in the classroom, Marshall was an Academic All-State recipient on four occasions, and he has been on the A Honor Roll throughout high school. Outside of school, Marshall enjoys wake-surfing, running, hanging out with friends, and going to his family’s cabin in Minnesota. After high school, Marshall plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he will be a Scott Scholar. He plans to study biology before applying to medical school.

Ty Jeffrey Schroeder, son of Jeff and Terrin Schroeder, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He was involved in football for four years and was awarded MVP of Special Teams. Ty also participated in track for three seasons. He also participated in wrestling his freshman year and decided to give it a try again his senior year. Ty was also active in FFA for two years. When asked to name a favorite instructor at BCHS, Ty listed Mrs. Angela Gray, stating, “She cares about her students and breaks things down into pieces that help the student understand the material better.” Ty listed Building Construction as his favorite class. Outside of school Ty enjoys hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He holds a position at Four-Quarters as a ranch hand. After high school, Ty plans to study animal science at Northeast Community College and will continue to work at Four-Quarters. He hopes to eventually start a business doing artificial insemination on cattle.

Aiden Sobotka, son of John Sobotka and Tani Krivolavek, attended Stuart Elementary in Yankton, South Dakota, and Bon HommeHigh School in Tyndall, South Dakota, before coming to Battle Creek High School during his junior year. During high school, Aiden played football for one season. When asked to name a favorite teacher at BCHS, Aiden listed Mr. Ryan Heller, stating, “He’s a great teacher and a good role model at the same time.
