Traven Jake Croghan, son of Heath Croghan and Dana Croghan, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He participated in football for one season, wrestling for three, and was involved in FFA for the past two years. When asked to name a favorite teacher at BCHS, Traven listed Mr. Mike Couch. Woods and Metals, taught by Mr. Couch, is Traven's favorite class. Outside of school, Traven enjoys hanging out with his friends, driving around, and buying cars to demo. In addition, Traven is employed as a horse trainer. Traven is undecided about his future plans.

On Monday, March 21st, Battle Creek Public Schools will be celebrating World Down Syndrome Day. You can help us celebrate the day by wearing fun and/or mismatched socks and by performing random acts of kindness for all. Our students will learn about inclusion and kindness, as well as learning about Down Syndrome in general! Please help us celebrate World Downs Syndrome Day on March 21 -Monday Wear your fun socks- learn about inclusion and perform random acts of kindness.

Lily Rae Knull, daughter of Corey and Kylie Knull, attended St. John Lutheran School in Battle Creek for preschool and kindergarten before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools for the remainder of her education. While at BCHS, Lily participated in volleyball, basketball, and track during all four years of high school. In volleyball, Lily served as a team captain this past fall. In addition, Lily has served as a Trailblazer for the past two years, and she has been on the A Honor Roll throughout high school. When asked to name a fondest memory from her time at BCHS, Lily mentioned that she will always remember cheering on the football squad in the stands with her friends. Outside of school, Lily works as a lifeguard during the summer months. She also enjoys playing with her dogs and going out to eat. After high school, Lily plans to attend Wayne State College to study criminal justice.

Lily Knull
Caleb Dean Lindgren, son of Sean and Murranda Lindgren, attended Christ Lutheran for preschool and half of kindergarten and Lincoln Elementary in Beatrice before coming to Battle Creek Public Schools in the fourth grade. He is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Caleb was active in golf during all four years of high school. Aside from golf, Caleb has served as a Trailblazer and has been an active member of Future Farmers of America as a junior and senior. In FFA, Caleb currently serves as the chapter’s treasurer. He has been on the A Honor Roll throughout high school. When asked to name a favorite instructor at BCHS, Caleb listed Mr. Taylor Baumert who he said “makes class enjoyable.” Caleb also said he likes the way Mr. Baumert teaches, and he really enjoys their conversations. Caleb listed U.S. history as his favorite subject to study in school. When looking back on his time at BCHS, Caleb listed his favorite memory as going to state golf because he enjoyed being on a nice course and staying in a hotel with the golf team. Outside of school, Caleb enjoys fishing, playing golf, and participating in Legion baseball during the summer months. After graduation, Caleb plans to attend Wayne State College to study social science education.

Raina Maureen Lade, daughter of Rick and Connie Lade, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for most of her education. She attended Norfolk Catholic High School for a semester during her freshman year to play softball but returned to finish the remainder of her schooling in her hometown. She is an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Raina was involved in basketball for three years and golf for two seasons. She lettered both years in golf and was named the Newcomer of the Year in 2020, the Lowest Score Award for the 2021 season, and was captain for the golf team her senior year. In addition, Raina participated in track, cross country, softball, cheerleading, mock trial and one act play production for one year. She has served as a Trailblazer for the past two years. Raina was selected as the Girl’s State representative for the 2020 school year. She held offices in band and chorus, and she was also a class officer. She was a section leader in band and qualified for Class C All-State Band during all four years of high school. Raina was on the “A” honor roll throughout high school and was named to the Dean’s List for part time students at Northeast Community College during two semesters as well as the NECC Dean’s List for full time students during one semester. Raina was a Student of the Month honoree in March of 2020 and in April of 2021. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Raina listed Mr. Ryan Heller. She said, “He is real with you, gives good advice, and has an enjoyable classroom atmosphere.” Her favorite class was Introduction to Statistics, mentioning that it “. . . was a self-taught class, and you were able to learn to pace yourself and ask questions when you needed help. It really prepares you for what the college classes will be like.” Outside of school, Raina enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She also enjoys spending her summers on the softball field, playing her favorite sport alongside some of her closest friends. After school hours, Raina is employed as a CNA for the Shiftkey Traveling Nursing Agency and she is also a clerk at U-Save Pharmacy in Norfolk. Following graduation, Raina plans to attend Northeast Community College to pursue a nursing degree. After Northeast, Raina plans to continue her education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to become a registered nurse anesthesiologist.

Emily Ann Kalvelage, daughter of Randy Kalvelage and Stacey and Todd Knutson, attended St. John’s Preschool before coming to the Battle Creek Public Schools in kindergarten. She is an active member of First Christian Church in Norfolk. Emily was involved in dance during all four years of high school where she lettered and received several awards, including Newcomer of the Year and the Jazz Award. In addition, she played volleyball for three seasons and ran track for one. Aside from athletics, Emily has served as a Trailblazer for the past two years, and she was a member of one act play production as a sophomore. As a senior, Emily participated in FCCLA, and she was named Member of the Month for the organization in October of 2021. When asked to list a favorite teacher at BCHS, Emily named Mrs. Jenni Frey, stating, “She was always helpful and funny.” She named Spanish as her favorite class. Emily added that during her senior year she greatly enjoyed Miss Kelsey Reiman. She mentioned that Miss Reiman is easy to talk to. Outside of school, Emily enjoys hanging out with her friends and family. She spends time at the lake in the summer and plays with her dog, Bailey. Emily is employed at Subway, a job she has had for over a year. She was named Employee of the Month in December of 2021. After high school, Emily plans to continue her education at Wayne State College where she will study criminal justice.

Hailey Ann Hurlbert, daughter of Jennifer Petersen and Tyler Schmidt and Grant and Staci Hurlbert, began her education in Randolph, Nebraska, before moving to Norfolk where she attended Grant Elementary School and Norfolk Middle School. She moved to Battle Creek in junior high. Hailey is an active member of First Christian Church in Norfolk. Hailey participated in basketball and dance during all four years of high school, and she played volleyball for three seasons. In addition, she participated in track for one season. Aside from athletics, Hailey participated in one act play production for three years, and she was in band and speech for two years. She participated in FCCLA for one year and has served as a Trailblazer as a junior and as a senior. When asked to list a favorite teacher, Hailey listed Miss Kelsey Reiman because “she has a fun learning environment and an enjoyable classroom.” Hailey added that Miss Reiman gives good advice and relates to students well because she is so young herself. Hailey mentioned that Spanish has been her favorite subject to study in high school. Hailey’s favorite memory from her time at BCHS was the fall of 2021 Burning of the BC. She stated, “It felt like the whole school was one big family, and the energy we brought was unforgettable.” Outside of school, Hailey enjoys going out with friends, camping, fishing, and spending time with her family. In her free time she loves to play the guitar, workout at the YMCA, and listen to Morgan Wallen. Hailey is employed at Subway in Battle Creek and is a lifeguard at the pool during the summer months. Following high school, Hailey plans to attend Wayne State College to study physical therapy.

Taylor Kathryn Easland, daughter of Kim and Brian Easland, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of her education. She is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Taylor participated in volleyball and dance during all four years of high school. In dance, Taylor served as a dance team captain, she was named Dancer of the Year, and she was part of the squad that finished in third place at state in 2020. Aside from athletics, Taylor was also involved in student council and one act play production for one year. She has served as a Trailblazer for the past two years, and she has also been on the yearbook staff as a junior and as a senior. This past year, she led as one of the yearbook editors. In addition, she is a member of National Honor Society and currently serves as the treasurer for the local chapter. When asked to name a favorite instructor at BCHS, Taylor listed Mr. Ryan Heller who “always made class fun and went outside the box in the learning environment he provided for his students.” Taylor listed math as her favorite subject. Looking back on her time at BCHS, Taylor’s fondest memory will always be the school dances. She always loved getting dressed up and dancing with her friends. Outside of school, Taylor works as a receptionist at Mirage Salon and MedSpa. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, and she enjoys traveling. After graduation, Taylor plans to attend the University of South Dakota in Vermillion to major in kinesiology. She plans to later earn an occupational therapy degree.

Keisha Renae Nelson, daughter of Tessa and Steve Travers and Travis and Jennifer Amen, attended Newman Grove Headstart and then Battle Creek Elementary for preschool. She went to Humphrey for kindergarten and part of first grade before returning to Battle Creek Elementary for the remainder of her education. Keisha is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. During high school, Keisha served as a volleyball manager as a freshman and sophomore, and she was also a Trailblazer during the past two years. She has been active in FFA for two years and has served as the organization’s vice president this past school year. For her efforts in the classroom, Keisha was on the A Honor Roll. In addition, Keisha received the Greenhand Degree, which is awarded to first year FFA members. When asked to name a favorite instructor, Keisha mentioned Mrs. Rebecca Fischer because of “her dry sense of humor” and how “she believes in her students' knowledge” and also how “she is straight up with you.” Outside of school, some of Keisha’s hobbies include 4-H and spending time with her family. She has worked at Goody’s Grille as a cook for two and a half years. After high school, Keisha plans to attend Northeast Community College to study respiratory therapy.
