Need a tux for prom?? BC Drama Department has teamed up with In the Spotlight to provide any student with a tuxedo rental and fitting! This Thursday, students will have the opportunity to pick out a tux and get measured during school hours. Tuxes will be delivered to the school and picked up the Monday after prom. Keira Marie Hestekind is the daughter of Bryan and Crystal Hestekind. Keira attended the Norfolk Public Schools before coming to Battle Creek High School in seventh grade. Keira is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Keira participated in wrestling for two seasons and golfed during all four years of high school. For her efforts on the mat, Keira was named Most Improved Wrestler. She served as a captain for the golf team during her senior year and was also a state qualifier. Keira was awarded multiple honors for her achievements in golf like Most Dedicated Golfer, MVP of the Year, and an award for scoring the lowest round on the team. She also competed in the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour in the 16-18 division where she earned the girls’ overall runner-up. Aside from athletics, Keira was a member of FCCLA and speech for one year and FFA during all four years. She served as a Trailblazer during the past two years. Keira served as the FFA Reporter as a junior and currently serves as the organization’s president. She was a four time state qualifier in FFA and was also awarded a State Degree, Green Hand Degree, and Chapter Degree. Keira was on the B honor roll throughout high school. Keira listed her favorite teacher as Mrs. Rebecca Anderson because “she made math fun and went out of her way to make sure you personally understood the concepts.” Keira’s fondest memory from her time at BCHS was her senior year district golf tournament. She stated that her team was very encouraging and supportive. She added, “Everyone got along and connected. When I made it to state, everyone was happy for me and all celebrated.” Outside of school, Keira enjoys golfing, hanging out with friends, walking her dog, shopping, and working out. She is currently employed at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek. She has been working there for three months as a dietary aide. After graduation, Keira will attend Southeast Community College in Beatrice to study medical sonography. She plans to have a career as an ultrasound technician. She will also be continuing her golf career in college for the Bobcats.

Jameson Leland Bishop, son of Andrew and Tiffany Bishop, attended Norfolk Catholic School before coming to Battle Creek High School in seventh grade. Jameson is a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Jameson was active in cross country during all four years of high school, he golfed for three seasons, and he played basketball for one season. His participation in cross country rewarded him with a varsity letter. Jameson listed his favorite teacher as Mr. Kobe Lade, stating, “I learn a lot in his class while having fun.” He listed Personal Finance as his favorite course because he learned valuable information for the real world. Outside of school, Jameson works at Hyvee as a checker, a position he has held for two years. In his spare time, Jameson enjoys golfing, fly fishing, and listening to music. After high school, Jameson plans to attend the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where he will study business.

Ayden Paul Wintz, son of Cody and Andrea Wintz, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for the entirety of his education. Ayden is a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and actively attends CYO in Battle Creek. During high school, Ayden participated in track for one season, golf for three seasons, and football and wrestling for all four years of high school. In wrestling, Ayden was a four-time conference and district champion, state wrestling third-place finisher as a freshman, state wrestling runner-up as a junior, and a two-time state champion, once as a sophomore and the other this past winter as a senior. Ayden was also a participant at the Nebraska State Wrestling Dual Championships during all four years of high school. He and his team finished in fourth place in 2024, and they took runner-up honors in 2022 and 2023 before clinching the state championship this past winter. As a team, he and his teammates won back-to-back state championships in Class C at the Nebraska State Wrestling Championships. When asked to name a fondest memory from his time in high school, Ayden stated winning state will always be his favorite highlight. Aside from athletics, Ayden has been on the honor roll during all four years of high school. He listed his favorite subject as art because he enjoyed spending time with his friends and his teacher. Ayden listed Mrs. Stephanie Nelson as his favorite teacher, stating, “She understands students very well and makes the class enjoyable.” Outside of school, Ayden plays American Legion baseball, and he is employed at Bank First where he has worked for the past six months. After high school, Ayden plans to attend the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where he will study finance and business.

Austin Allen LeComte-Klug, son of Chris and Hope Klug, attended Battle Creek Public Schools for the entirety of his education. Austin participated in football his freshman and junior years. For his efforts in the classroom, he was awarded Student of the Month. When asked to name a favorite instructor, Austin listed Mr. Junior Aguilar because “he is the most funny and engaging teacher.” He also stated his favorite class as chemistry because Mr. Aguilar is the teacher. Austin’s fondest memories from his time in high school are being creative in his digital media class. He stated that he really liked having the opportunity to be creative during school. Outside of school, Austin enjoys building computers, music creation, digital art, auto detailing, and mechanics. Austin has been employed at Cornhusker Nissan as a detail and lube technician for the past three months. After high school, Austin plans to enter the workforce.

Dahkota Dean Zlomke, son of Tim and Julie Zlomke, has attended Battle Creek Public Schools for all thirteen years of his education. He attends First Christian Church in Norfolk. Dahkota was a four-year member of the football, wrestling, and golf teams. For his efforts in football and wrestling, he was a four-time varsity letter winner. Dahkota was also selected as an Academic All-State wrestler. When asked to name a favorite teacher, Dahkota listed Mrs. Brianna O’Brien, stating, “She has helped me realize that my career goal of becoming a chef can easily become a reality.” Dahkota named math as his favorite subject because he finds it satisfying to figure out long algebraic equations. Outside of school, Dahkota enjoys attending youth group, building Legos, playing frisbee golf, and spending time on the golf course. After high school, Dahkota plans to attend Southeast Community College where he will study the culinary arts. He has a long-term goal of owning his own restaurant.

Dawson Robert Amick, son of Dave and Amber Amick, attended Chris Lutheran School in Norfolk, Nebraska, through the fourth grade before coming to St. John Lutheran School in Battle Creek for grades five through eight. Dawson came to Battle Creek High School as a freshman. He is an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Dawson participated in football and track during all four years of high school. For his efforts on the gridiron, Dawson received numerous awards. He was selected as a football team captain his senior year and was named to the All-State squad twice and All-State Honorable Mention team twice during his career. Dawson was handpicked for the Norfolk Daily News Football Super Six in 2024. He is a four-time varsity letter recipient in football and a three-time letter winner in track. Aside from athletics, Dawson was an active member of FFA for three years and served as a Trailblazer for two. During his time in FFA, Dawson was appointed as an officer. Aside from his many activities at the school, Dawson was also a leader in the classroom. He earned Character Student of the Month on multiple occasions. When asked to list a favorite subject of study, Dawson chose history. He stated, “Mr. Taylor Baumert was a great teacher, and I enjoyed learning about the history of the world.” Dawson mentioned how Mr. Baumert made the class enjoyable and something to look forward to each day. He listed Mr. Andrew Carlson as his favorite teacher and remarked that the two have “had a lot of fun in the weight room through the years.” Dawson highlighted summer weights as his favorite memory from his time at Battle Creek High School because he “enjoyed the morning workouts with the fellas.” Outside of school, Dawson enjoys working, hunting, hanging out with friends, and participating in rodeo. After graduation, Dawson plans to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. There, he will study business or pre-medicine. Dawson has dreams of becoming either a certified financial planner or an orthopedic surgeon.
